Windows 8 Bluescreen (BSOD) When Using Integrated Webcam

Apply to : Lenovo Ideapad Y550 (my laptop, in this case), & other laptops facing this problem.

BSOD happen when some apps using the webcam. [i can confirm that there was nothing wrong with app, so you don't have to uninstall the apps]
The blue screen says "kernel security check failure" or maybe other things.
THE PROBLEM is the camera the driver. FYI, Lenovo doesn't give windows 8 drivers for  my Y550.
HOW TO FIX IT : simply just uninstall the camera driver, restart, and the camera works without BSOD.

* for some who couldn't see the "lenovo easy camera driver" in Program and Features, you can download the setup for easy camera driver [link], set in properties to run in compatibility mode for windows 7. activate the camera, run the setup, this will uninstall the driver. restart. (this is exactly what i've done to fix this)
 * one more issue maybe you'll face at the first time, when disabling the camera using the Fn+esc key, the keyboard won't work (restart the windows, mostly solved the problem). if after restart the screen goes blank, press and hold the power key to force shutdown. turn on the machine again by pressing the power button + press & hold the esc key.

problem solved, case closed.

  1. The points mentioned regarding blue screen issue is very much correct. Mostly what I do is first go through the hard disk because hard disk failure is more often the cause of blue screen. Being a technician in hp service center I have sorted out these kind of many issues. Good post and do keep writing more on other laptop issues as well. Thank you.
